Early 2023 Autodesk introduced the initial capabilities of Forma, a cloud service designed to unify workflows across design, construction, and operations teams. Forma proves most beneficial in the early planning and design phases, offering automation and AI-driven insights that streamline the exploration of design concepts, automate repetitive tasks, and assist in evaluating environmental aspects of building sites. This allows architects to focus more on creativity.
Forma enables architecture professionals to work in an iterative manner, moving back and forth between planning and detailed design, as noted by Autodesk. It allows for the quick evaluation of numerous design options, enhancing those with the most desirable features. Users gain access to advanced capabilities without needing deep technical knowledge, which boosts productivity. Architects can thus deliver higher-quality results to their clients more efficiently.
A notable feature of Forma is its contextual modeling capability, which eases the initiation of new building information modeling (BIM) projects. Users can swiftly create a 3D model for a project by either inputting their data or purchasing datasets for specific locations. Machine learning technology then conducts real-time analyses of initial designs focusing on key aspects like sunlight, daylight, wind, and microclimate.
During Autodesk's yearly conference, Autodesk University in November 2023 the company introduced Autodesk AI, offering intelligent assistance and generative capabilities that enhance creativity, solve problems quickly, and eliminate various unproductive tasks. Integrated across Autodesk's product range, Autodesk AI serves as a virtual assistant that simplifies the learning process for designers and engineers, enabling them to work more efficiently, increase productivity, and foster innovation.
In the AEC unit, Autodesk's Construction IQ utilizes AI to foresee, prevent, and manage construction risks affecting quality, safety, costs, and schedules. AutoCAD employs AI to enable drafters to iterate designs more quickly by interpreting handwritten and digital markups and suggesting context-aware actions.
Autodesk's new Machine Learning Deluge tool uses AI to offer feedback that helps prevent or mitigate water-related disasters. It allows designers to forecast flood maps accurately for various projects, enhancing the efficiency of the drainage design process.
In the realm of product design and manufacturing, Autodesk's generative AI capabilities facilitate conceptual design exploration in the automotive industry, leading to faster outcomes and the ability to rapidly create and edit 3D models in real-time using semantic controls and natural language, without needing advanced skills. On Autodesk's Fusion platform for 3D CAD, the software can automatically generate designs optimized for manufacturing processes and costs.
